Black Love is the Whigs second masterpiece in a row and they would never be as dark or foreboding again. Where Gentlemen was intimate and desperate, Black Love is grand and demanding. It’s the soundtrack to a Film Noir / Blaxploitation mashup, a world where secrets and betrayal are set to a Wah Wah pedal and there’s no discerning anger, desperation or triumph. It’s terrifying and I never want to leave. Here’s hoping Greg gives us the second part of that crime scene at some point.
